The risk of recall reluctance
Do you know the recall status of your car?
If you don’t, you’re not alone. Vehicle history checking service CarVertical found that from January 2023 to September 2024, only 28% of recalled vehicles in the UK actually had their problems fixed.
That means a staggering 72% of vehicles with defects are still on the road, without having been seen to.
While some defects are minor, others pose serious safety risks, involving critical safety components like airbags, brakes and electrical systems.

If you’re not sure what your vehicle’s recall status is, all you have to do is enter your reg number on gov.uk, and they’ll tell you – click here to do yours now.
And if you discover your vehicle HAS been recalled?
First, speak to your manufacturer – they should have contacted you already to tell you what to do next.
And bear in mind that most defects can be resolved during regular vehicle maintenance, so you don’t have to be out of action for any longer than necessary.
Keep on top of your yearly MOT and service, and if something doesn’t feel right – or you’ve been told by your manufacturer to have your car looked at – bring it into BMC, and we’ll be glad to help.
Driving with defects puts you and other drivers at risk, you could be fined or banned from driving, your insurance claim could be invalidated, AND your car will be worth less when you come to sell it.
So if you want some four-wheeled peace of mind, hit reply or give us a call on 01280 812121 or 01869 323272 and let’s get you booked in for a reassuring check over.
Stay safe out there,
Ian
