“My Car Air Conditioning Isn’t Working!”
“My Car Air Conditioning Isn’t Working!” – Why We’re Getting So Many Calls During the UK HeatwaveThis week we’ve had lots of calls from customers saying:
"My car air conditioning isn’t working, can you take a look please?"
With the hot weather arriving across the UK, many drivers are turning on their air conditioning for the first time since last summer — only to discover it’s no longer blowing cold air.
The truth is, car air conditioning systems need to be used regularly all year round, not just during a heatwave.
Many people don’t realise that the air conditioning system contains seals and components that rely on regular use to stay lubricated and airtight. When the system is left unused for months at a time, those seals can begin to dry out, which can allow the refrigerant gas to slowly escape.
Once the gas level drops too low, the system can no longer cool the air properly.
Using your air conditioning regularly — even during winter — helps to:
- Keep seals lubricated
- Maintain gas pressure
- Prevent parts from drying out
- Reduce the risk of expensive repairs
- Keep windows clear by helping demist the car quicker
We recommend running your air conditioning for at least 10 minutes every couple of weeks throughout the year, even in colder weather.
If your air conditioning is no longer blowing cold air, has a strange smell, or seems weaker than usual, it may be time for an inspection or regas.
With the current heatwave, appointment spaces are filling quickly, so if you think your air conditioning needs attention, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help keep you cool on the road.
