Tesla Trouble

Without wanting to sound like a cynic, perhaps this story exhibits why cars have always had humans driving them.

Tesla’s new full self-driving (FSD) technology has been rolled out recently in China, but the results are a little less successful than Mr Musk would’ve liked.

Supposedly, the FSD software (for people who’ve already shelled out $8,800 for the FSD package) is meant to give Teslas the ability to navigate urban environments in a way never seen before – lane changing, speed adjusting, recognising traffic signals. All that important stuff.

Problem is, the FSD software can’t adapt to China-specific road laws. D’oh.

Early adopters of the technology have reported their Tesla drives in lanes it shouldn’t be in, makes illegal turns, and misinterprets traffic signals. So most of the important stuff really.

One driver even stated their Tesla mistook a red balloon for a traffic light – let’s hope there’s not an influx of clowns onto Chinese streets.

This all results in drivers receiving multiple tickets for their car’s transgressions, with one driver claiming they’d been slapped with seven from one drive – ouch!

Call me old-fashioned but I still recognise the value in people performing people tasks, like driving cars, fixing cars, and selling cars.
